Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino
Opelousas, Louisiana
The voters of Louisiana allowed gaming at existing horse racing tracks subject to Parish approval. The existing Evangeline Downs Racetrack was reviewed and it was determined that retrofitting the project for gaming was not cost beneficial.
A 550 acre site was assembled three miles from the existing track in the town of Opelousas. A new horse racing track with all of the support facilities would need to be built along with the gaming area and its required support areas. Additional amenities to act as crowd attractions would also need to be coordinated within the site. Infrastructure development including wetlands mitigation and coordination of three operating oil wells would need to be carefully meshed with the phased construction of the complex.
Master plans were developed reviewing freeway and surface route access for track patrons and casino patrons separating them from the receiving deliveries and the gaming deliveries. Master plan issues also included future retail development locations, future sports fields and future residential developments for employees.

Santa Fe Station Hotel and Casino
Las Vegas, Nevada
Being the first hotel and casino to be built in the
northwest quadrant of Las Vegas was a special challenge
for this project. Our design department determined that
a traditional southwestern flavor would best suit this
project to harmonize with the many southwestern style
homes located near it. Native landscaping has been used
to blend with the natural environment. The building
form and colors reflect the surrounding desert hues
and mountain skyline, with the exterior utilizing stucco
and an authentic clay tile roof.
The 200-room, 300,000 s.f. hotel and casino is situated
on over 100 acres and includes lavishly decorated suites
as well as economy suites for family use. A full size
ice skating rink, a 60-lane computerized Brunswick Bowler
Vision and The Pavillion restaurants provide visitors
with unique fun. A shortage of fine restaurants in the
area prompted the inclusion of The Pavillion, an area
of the hotel with a steakhouse, an Italian and French
restaurant, all with specialized design themes. To encourage
a family atmosphere, there is no gaming in The Pavillion.
For easy visitor access, each of these areas also has
its own exterior entrance.
Several years later KGA completed a $12 million, 66,000
s.f. addition to this casino, which includes a race
and sports book, space for 200 additional slot machines,
four themed restaurants, and administrative areas.
The Fiesta Hotel and Casino, a $30 million project,
is a 100 room facility designed to emulate a Mexican
village. The exciting, colorful decor lends the entire
facility to a festive atmosphere. The hotel features
three restaurants, including a popular New Mexico restaurant
styled after a 1930's chile packing plant. The hotel
also has included a dance hall and live country and
western entertainment. A pool, 650 slot machines, and
a race and sports book are also part of the project.
A major addition in 1996 included 55,000 s.f. of casino
expansion, additional restaurants including one of the
largest buffets in the area and special recreational
areas.

Tournament Player's Club at
Summerlin (TPC)
Clubhouse
Las Vegas, Nevada
Central to the Tournament Players Club at Summerlin
is the Clubhouse, focal point to the prestigious 18
hole, Fuzzy Zoeller-designed golf course. The facility
is home to 400 members, and can serve up to 200 in the
banquet hall. A grand hall connects the banquet facilities
to the locker rooms, bar and pro shop. The hall organizes
the building to give spectacular fairway views for the
banquet facilities, bar and outdoor patios. A fully
improved basement for service and cart storage increases
the efficiency of the building's functions.
The building's masonry exterior and hipped-roof massing
create a harmonious dialogue with nearby Lone Mountain.
The large overhangs and porte-cocheres help soften the
desert sun to create an opulent atmosphere for the golfer
and guest.
Spanish Trail Country Club - Phase I and II
Las Vegas, Nevada
Spanish Trail Country Club is a private luxury country
club facility for 750 members that is unique to Las
Vegas. This project, located across from the prestigious
Spanish Trail private community and golf course, features
an exquisite 50,000 s.f. Spanish contemporary building
with dining rooms, lounge area, pro shop, locker rooms,
card rooms and administration offices. It's Spanish
style architecture mandated exterior materials of clay
tile, brick and stucco, combined with earth tone colors
and a pyramid roof line.
The two-story building is rotated 45 degrees to maximize
exposure from the east-west Tropicana Avenue corridor.
A circular, two-story lobby is centralized for the three
tenants, and acts as a buffer for the client's resale
center and corporate headquarters.
Golf carts are stored in a special underground parking
and maintenance garage. Nestled into its site, with
broad expanses of glass to the breathtaking views of
the golf course.
