The growth of the gaming
industry in Las Vegas has impacted every division of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police
Department. One result of that growth is a dramatic increase in the volume of Work Cards
issued by Metro for gaming industry employees. The current Downtown Las Vegas
fingerprinting facility, which is used for interviewing, fingerprinting and photographing
applicants for these cards in addition to the full range of fingerprinting services, has
reached its capacity. In order to meet these growing demands, a larger facility, equipped
to take advantage of the latest advances in fingerprint technology, has been developed. With the impending construction of a new LVMPD MetroComm Center, the current
MetroComm facility located at Las Vegas Boulevard and Russel Road will be available to
meet this need. Located at the South end of the Las Vegas Strip, near the greatest
concentration of gaming employees, and with easy freeway access, this building will be
remodeled to accommodate the current and future needs of this important Metro function.
In addition to providing more space for staff, this new facility
will include additional public waiting areas, adequate on-site public and staff parking
and technology infrastructure to support a state of the art Automatic Fingerprinting
Identification System.
